Description: Stretches of Sohar’s beach in the Sultanate of Oman were covered Wednesday with a silver coat of dead fish, mostly sardines. People were collecting full baskets of fish brought onshore by the sea. Many of the people in the beach said they were collecting the fish to feed their animals while others said they would wash and put the fish to dry in the sun and then eat it. Seagulls were having a feast with thousands of fish floating in the shallow waters while some fishermen were just looking on the sad scene. Streams of cars and curious youth drove by the beach while dozens of workers brought in by the municipality were working hard and fast to clean the sand. Whether an ecological disaster or a reaction from nature it is hard to say but surely the scene was one of sadness. Sonia
